CUAV V6X vs V5+ vs 7-Nano: Which Flight Controller Fits?

The best flight controller is the one that matches the aircraft, firmware, sensor set and integration plan. Processing power matters, but connector layout, redundancy, vibration environment and available space often decide whether an autopilot is easy to integrate. This comparison focuses on the CUAV flight controllers currently listed by Orkes.
Three useful starting points
| Controller | Best considered for | Key integration question |
|---|---|---|
| CUAV V5+ | Established Pixhawk-style builds that value a familiar ecosystem | Does the existing wiring and firmware target match the V5+ hardware? |
| CUAV Pixhawk V6X | Professional systems needing newer processing, sensor redundancy and rich interfaces | Which exact hardware revision and carrier-board combination is being ordered? |
| CUAV 7-Nano | Compact unmanned systems where size and mass are tightly constrained | Are the available ports sufficient for every required peripheral? |
Choose from the interfaces outward
List every required connection before selecting the controller: GNSS, telemetry, CAN devices, power modules, RC input, payload control, airspeed, rangefinder and mission computer. Reserve ports for commissioning and future maintenance. A controller can be powerful enough but still be the wrong choice if adapters, splitters or unsupported bus combinations are required.
Redundancy only helps when the installation supports it
Multiple IMUs and barometers can improve fault detection, but mounting quality and configuration remain critical. Place the controller away from strong vibration, heat and electromagnetic interference. Use the recommended power module and confirm that backup power, sensor orientation and fail-safe behaviour are configured in the selected firmware.
CUAV’s current official controller comparison covers the active controller families and design standards. Firmware targets are hardware-specific, and closely named versions are not always interchangeable. Verify the exact model in the PX4 or ArduPilot documentation before loading firmware or moving a configuration from another controller.
Select the controller as part of a system
A controller should be evaluated together with its GNSS or RTK module, power management, telemetry and sensors. That system view prevents late compatibility changes. If you share the aircraft type, firmware preference, voltage, payload and required interfaces, Orkes can help identify a suitable CUAV configuration.
